
Passive House Tour: Pan-American Square Apartments, Buffalo

Join us for a tour of Pan-American Square Apartments: a 174,000 square foot, 150-unit new construction affordable housing apartment complex currently under construction on the site of a North Buffalo abandoned rail line. The development will include three four-story buildings, all linked by one-story walkways. The project achieved PHIUS+ 2018 and Source Zero Pre-Certification in 2022.

Rylee Noonan is a Senior Passive House Verifier at Sustainable Comfort and has worked in the Green Building sector for 7 years. Rylee specializes in bridging the gap between developers, design teams and contractors to build the best buildings possible. Rylee’s dedication and passion for the green building industry is showcased through her passion for education, relationship building and knowledge building between teams.

Learning Objectives
1. Participants will gain an understanding of the relationships between architect, builder, owner, CPHC, and rater, specific to a Passive House Certified building.
2. Participants will learn about challenges that arose during design and construction and how they were solved to meet the Passive House standard.
3. Participants will learn about material and systems choices for this project, and why they were used, specific to Passive House certification.

This is a construction site tour and participants must dress accordingly or risk not being permitted to enter the site. Attendees must wear:
- Closed-toe shoes that are “hardy” – no flats
- Long pants – no shorts or capris
- Short sleeve or longer shirts of bright colors
- Hard hats required – Bring your own if you have one. There will be some available for those who don’t have one.
